Collage of 9 new College of Engineering hires

Nine new hires in Notre Dame Engineering are strengthening the College and its students through contributions to experiential learning, inclusive teaching, advising and mentoring, and research.

“We’re excited to welcome these talented scholars, teachers, and advisors,” said  Patricia J. Culligan , the Matthew H. McCloskey Dean of Engineering.

“We look forward to all of the ways they will enrich the College, the education and formation of our students, and Notre Dame and the community at large with new ideas and collaborations that advance our vision of engineering a better world for all.”

Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering

Craig Goehler
Associate Teaching Professor
Biomechanics of human motion, exoskeleton systems, musculoskeletal modeling and simulation, human-robot interaction, mechanism analysis and synthesis and computer aided design (CAD).

Maria Warren
Assistant Teaching Professor
Computational modeling of porous materials, experimental mechanics and solid mechanics, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and experiential learning.



Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences

Phillip Barutha
Associate Teaching Professor
Climate resiliency, renewable energy, construction engineering and management in industry, teaching project-based learning and real-world applications.

Wade McGillis
Professor
Ocean, estuary and river ecosystems, water quality and acidification.

Computer Science and Engineering

Karla Badillo-Urquiola
Assistant Professor
Human-computer interaction, social computing, online safety, digital youth and child welfare, and Latino populations, marginalized populations.

Aaron Dingler
Associate Teaching Professor
Computer architecture, emerging devices, circuits, and architectures, computer science and engineering education.

Chandrika Satyavolu
Associate Teaching Professor
Wireless and mobile networks, RFID anti-collision protocols, delay tolerant networks and software defined networks.

Office of the Dean of Engineering

Julia Qian , academic advisor, joined the College in August 2021, and Leonor Wangensteen , advising professor, joined in Fall 2022. They are the first two advisors hired for the new Engineering Advising program, supporting undergraduates from sophomore to senior year.
